The workweek had barely gotten started at Shaw Moving & Storage in Crestview on July 12 when a 50-year old employee suffered a major heart attack, keeled over and died. The story might have ended there, unhappily, were it not for the fact that several Crestview Police squad cars are equipped with portable defibrillators while on patrol. The Crestview Police Department, posthumously promoted Investigator Buster Glen Adams also known as “Buddy” to the rank of Sergeant last night, June 15th, 2010, at the City of Crestview Council meeting. Buster G. Adams was shot three times and was killed in the line of Duty on Tuesday, March 26, 1974. Investigator Buster G. Adams was shot during a struggle with an armed suspect at a bar that was then known as the “Old Quaker” on North Ferdon in Crestview. The suspect was later identified as Foster Taylor (49) of Crestview. Buster Adams was able to return fire, killing the suspect before succumbing to his own wounds. Buster Adams worked for the Crestview Police Department for 4 years before becoming the first and only Police Officer killed in the Line of Duty, with the Crestview Police Department. Buster was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Military Purple Heart after sustaining an injury during the Vietnam War. He returned to Crestview to faithfully serve as a Police Officer and later as an Investigator with the Crestview Police Department. He honorably served the citizens of Crestview until he was killed on March 26th, 1974.
The City of Crestview and the Crestview Police Department honored the memory of Buster Adams by encasing his service revolver and gun belt in a shadow‐box. His revolver had been secured at the Crestview Police Department since the incident. A photograph of Buster G. Adams in his Crestview Police Department uniform, and the shadow‐box were delivered to Buster’s cousin Ronnie Barnes and his wife, who had come to Crestview from Georgia to honor Buster, and to attend Buster’s posthumous promotion to the rank of Sergeant. |

On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Crestview Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our website. We want to invite you to take advantage of the the information and activities provided by the Crestview Police Department. The Internet and related technologies will never replace the need for our police officers to be out in the community, working face-to-face with residents, community leaders, business owners and others. But these technologies can help bring people together, and they can enhance our ability to fight crime and solve neighborhood problems. I hope you find our online resources interesting and useful. I also hope you sign up to receive future editions of our newsletter, as new content and features are added regularly. And, of course, I welcome your thoughts and ideas on how we can improve police operations in general. - Chief Brian Mitchell
